Series 2000 and Series 4000 MTU installations serviced, diagnosed, repaired and overhauled on board — with the measurement discipline and documentation these engines are designed around.
MTU marine engines, particularly the Series 2000 and Series 4000 families in 8V, 10V, 12V and 16V configurations, are built around a defined maintenance philosophy: specified intervals, specified consumables, specified overhaul points, and monitoring systems that log how the engine has actually been used. Kept to that programme they are exceptionally capable propulsion packages. Run past it, they get expensive quickly — which is why condition assessment and honest advice matter more on MTU than on almost any other brand.
| Family | Configurations | Where you find them |
|---|---|---|
| Series 2000 | 8V, 10V, 12V, 16V | Planing and semi-displacement yachts, fast commercial craft |
| Series 4000 | 8V, 12V, 16V | Larger yachts, commercial propulsion and power generation |
| Legacy series | Earlier 183 / 396 / 2000 installations | Older yachts still in active service |
| Generator sets | MTU-based marine gensets | Hotel and auxiliary load — see generator service |
We are frank about this: for engines inside factory warranty, or where a case needs manufacturer-level authorisation, the official MTU network is the correct route. Where we add value is independent diagnosis, second opinions, out-of-warranty service and repair, overhaul work, alignment, generator support and rapid attendance when a vessel needs an experienced marine diesel engineer on location. Many managers and chief engineers use both, deliberately.

Mainly Series 2000 and Series 4000 in 8V, 10V, 12V and 16V configurations, plus older installations still in service and MTU-based generator sets. Send the model and serial number and we will confirm what we can cover.
Outside factory warranty, yes — independent service is normal and legitimate, and we document everything to a standard that satisfies surveyors and buyers. Inside warranty, use the official network so your cover is not at risk. We will tell you which situation you are in.
MTU specifies overhaul intervals per engine and rating, but the real answer comes from condition: compression, crankcase pressure, oil analysis, exhaust temperature spread and load history. We assess and then advise, rather than working from the hour meter alone.
Yes, including load bank testing to rated output — the only reliable way to prove a set will carry the vessel’s load when it is needed.
No. We are an independent marine engineering company and we say so plainly. We service, repair and overhaul these engines on their technical merits; for factory warranty work or authorised-network service, go to the manufacturer’s official dealer. Many owners and managers use us alongside the dealer network — independently for service and repair, and through the dealer where warranty requires it.
We source genuine and OEM-equivalent parts through established marine suppliers, and we tell you which is which. On critical internal components we recommend genuine parts; on many service items a quality equivalent is sound engineering at a better price. The choice stays yours.
Send the details below and you will hear back from an engineer, not a call centre. For a vessel that is stranded or on a tight departure slot, call +31 6 20743967 or message us on WhatsApp.
Send the model, running hours and the alarm history. You will get a technical assessment and a realistic plan, including whether the dealer network is the better route for your case.
