MAN marine engine service and repair.

MAN marine diesels demand precise setting and clean fuel to deliver their rated performance. We diagnose, service, repair and overhaul MAN engines on board — from i6 units to V8 and V12 installations — across Europe.

Experience

High-output engines with little tolerance for sloppy servicing

MAN marine engines — the i6 in-line units and the V8 and V12 families found in a great many planing and semi-displacement yachts — produce impressive specific output from compact packages. That output comes from high boost pressures, precise injection and tightly specified cooling. Which means two things in practice: they perform beautifully when set up and maintained to specification, and they show you very quickly when they are not. Fuel quality, charge air cooling and injection condition are where the majority of the faults we attend actually begin.

Independent service provider. Superyacht Engine Service is an independent marine engineering company. We are not an authorised dealer, official service partner or representative of MAN Truck & Bus SE, MAN Engines or its distributors. The MAN Truck & Bus SE, MAN Engines or its distributors name and model designations are used purely to describe the equipment we service, and all trademarks remain the property of their respective owners. For warranty work or factory-authorised service, contact the manufacturer's official network.

Common work

What we are typically called in for

  • Power complaints and exhaust temperature spread — boost, charge air temperature, fuel delivery and injector condition measured per bank and per cylinder.
  • Common rail fuel system service — injector testing and renewal, rail pressure diagnosis, high-pressure pump condition, filtration and water separation.
  • Turbocharger and charge air cooling — sequential and twin turbo behaviour, wastegate function, intercooler fouling and internal leakage.
  • Cooling system work — seawater circuit, heat exchangers, thermostats, coolant condition and inhibitor levels.
  • Valve and head work — clearance setting to specification, head reconditioning, gasket failures and coolant-in-oil diagnosis.
  • Electronic engine management — sensor and wiring faults, derates and shutdowns, verified against physical measurement.
  • Overhauls and re-installation — top-end and in-frame work, plus alignment after any engine or gearbox removal.
On high-output MAN engines, charge air temperature deserves as much attention as coolant temperature. A partially blocked intercooler raises combustion temperatures, costs power and quietly shortens the life of pistons and valves long before an alarm appears.
Approach

Set to specification, proven under load

MAN publishes tight service values, and we work to them: valve clearances, injection settings, boost and charge air targets, torque figures. Every visit finishes with a sea trial or load run where possible, with readings recorded so the next engineer can see how the engine performed on the day. Full scope on our repair, maintenance and overhaul pages.

Questions we get asked

Frequently asked questions

Which MAN marine engines do you service?

The i6 (D2676), V8 (D2868) and V12 (D2862) marine families, plus earlier D28xx installations still in service. Send the model and serial number and we will confirm the scope before travelling.

Why has my MAN engine lost power at the top end?

Most often charge air cooling, injector condition, exhaust back pressure or a fuel delivery limit — occasionally an electronic derate protecting the engine. All of these are measurable, which is why we take readings under load rather than guessing from symptoms.

Do you service MAN common rail injection systems?

Yes — injector testing and renewal, rail pressure diagnosis, high-pressure pump assessment and the fuel filtration and water separation upstream of it, which is where a surprising share of injection faults originate.

Can you carry out MAN overhaul work on board?

Top-end and in-frame overhauls in situ where access allows, with all critical dimensions measured against MAN tolerances and documented, then a controlled run-in and sea trial.

Are you an authorised dealer for this brand?

No. We are an independent marine engineering company and we say so plainly. We service, repair and overhaul these engines on their technical merits; for factory warranty work or authorised-network service, go to the manufacturer’s official dealer. Many owners and managers use us alongside the dealer network — independently for service and repair, and through the dealer where warranty requires it.

Do you use genuine parts?

We source genuine and OEM-equivalent parts through established marine suppliers, and we tell you which is which. On critical internal components we recommend genuine parts; on many service items a quality equivalent is sound engineering at a better price. The choice stays yours.

Service enquiry

Tell us about the engine and the vessel.

Send the details below and you will hear back from an engineer, not a call centre. For a vessel that is stranded or on a tight departure slot, call +31 6 20743967 or message us on WhatsApp.

Direct line

MAN engine down on power or throwing codes?

Send the model, running hours and the fault list. We will tell you what we would measure first and what it usually turns out to be.
